Beach clubs in Italy

Italy calls them stabilimenti, and they range from mass-market beach rows to some of the most exclusive clubs in the Mediterranean. The character changes completely between coasts.

Costa Smeralda in Sardinia is the glamour end, with Porto Cervo clubs built for the yacht crowd. The Amalfi Coast and Capri trade that for cliffside coves and long lunches over the Tyrrhenian.

Forte dei Marmi in Versilia is the most storied strip, dense with historic beach clubs and premium beds. Rimini on the Adriatic is the opposite: Italy's biggest concentration of clubs, family-friendly and far cheaper.

Down south, Salento in Puglia has a fast-growing scene of turquoise-water lidos and DJ sets. Taormina does the Sicilian version beneath its hilltop town.

Most clubs run May to September, with August the peak and the priciest.
