Polignano a Mare is cliffs and coves, not long sand, so its famous swimming spots like Lama Monachile are free beaches rather than clubs. The real beach clubs in Polignano a Mare are a line of equipped lidi on the sandier stretches north of the old town and up the Bari coast. We cover six here.

These are stabilimenti balneari, the Italian setup where you rent an umbrella and loungers for the day. Prices run from about €12 for two loungers at the simple lidos to €20-plus per person at the pool clubs. The season is May to September, peaking in July and August.

The clubs spread out along the Adriatic, from the coves right by town to polished pool lidi at Cozze and Mola di Bari, and family spots north past Bari at Giovinazzo. For more of the region, see our guide to beach clubs in Italy or the beaches of Salento further south.

Looking for somewhere to stay in Polignano a Mare? Here are our picks:

  • ★Cliffside cave dining above the sea >> Hotel Grotta Palazzese
  • ★Old town base with sea views >> Covo dei Saraceni
  • ★Boutique suites near the centre >> Malù Suite Hotel
  • ★Beach resort with pool and spa >> Pietrablu Resort & Spa
  • ★Central and walkable to the coves >> San Giorgio Hotel

Does Polignano a Mare have beach clubs?

Yes, though not where you'd expect. The photo-famous coves in town, Lama Monachile and Cala Porto, are free public beaches with no sunbed service. For an equipped beach club you head just out of the centre.

Coco Beach Club at Cozze and Cala San Giovanni Beach Club to the north are the two to know, both with pools, food and full-day loungers.

Where are the sandy beach clubs near Polignano a Mare?

The sand sits north of the old town and along the coast toward Mola di Bari. Cala San Giovanni is the golden-sand cove option, while Lido Cala Paura and Lido Oasi Cala Fetente are simpler sandy lidos closer to town.

Widen north past Bari and Riva del Sole at Giovinazzo adds two pools on a natural cove.

Coco Beach Club

Poolside sunbeds and wooden sea decks at Coco Beach Club, Cozze

Coco Beach Club sits at Cozze, on the rocky shore where Polignano a Mare meets Mola di Bari. It's the flagship lido on this coast. Ladders and wooden decks drop into the sea, and a pool and solarium back the sunbed rows.

The setup is built for a full day. Two food venues, a lounge bar with DJ sets, and a sports lineup that runs beach volley, foot volley, teqball, ping pong and yoga. There's a kids' village too.

Sunbed packages have started around €20 per person, with 2026 day and season rates on the site. Private parking, free WiFi and dog access are all part of it. Book ahead for July and August weekends, when Bari empties onto this coast. €€€

Cala San Giovanni Beach Club

Golden-sand cove ringed by pine trees at Cala San Giovanni, north of Polignano a Mare

Cala San Giovanni Beach Club is a golden-sand cove about 4km north of the old town, ringed by pine trees and caves cut into the cliff. Mondo Balneare named it the best lido in Italy, and it's held the Blue Flag many years running.

You rent an umbrella and loungers, then eat Apulian dishes on a panoramic terrace or order from a bar set inside a natural cave. The pine grove keeps things shaded and cooler than the open lidos.

It leans hard on sustainability and accessibility, with step-free routes and services for disabled guests. Rates are set seasonally and aren't published online, so book through the venue or Spiagge.it. This is the upmarket choice near Polignano. €€€

Lido Cala Paura

Simple sandy lido with fishing boats near the old town at Cala Paura, Polignano a Mare

Lido Cala Paura is the closest equipped beach to the old town, on a small sandy cove off Via San Vito. Fishing boats still moor on the free section next door, and it's the landing point for the town's patron-saint sea procession.

It's simple and cheap. Umbrellas, deckchairs and loungers, with toilets and lifeguards in high season, plus a small bar and kitchen.

Two loungers run around €12 a day, among the lowest prices on this coast. There's no own website, so booking goes through Spiagge.it. Good for a low-key local beach day within walking reach of the centre. €

Lido Oasi Cala Fetente

Sandy beach with loungers and a beach kitchen at Cala Fetente, San Giovanni area

Lido Oasi Cala Fetente sits in the San Giovanni area north of town, a part-free, part-equipped sandy beach you'll want a car to reach. The kitchen is known locally for fried fish.

Loungers and umbrellas are cheap, from about €12 a day. Weekends bring DJ nights with dancing on the sand, and evenings turn romantic with music and candles.

The venue's own site was offline when we checked, so details come from local guides rather than the club. Treat prices and hours as a guide and call ahead. €€

Wonder Beach Club

Panoramic pool with white gazebos and linen drapes at Wonder Beach Club, Mola di Bari

North up the coast at Mola di Bari, Wonder Beach Club is a design-led pool lido on a mix of rocky and sandy coves. White wooden gazebos and linen drapes sit in Mediterranean gardens.

Sunbeds and umbrellas include pool access, with a chiringuito restaurant and a lounge bar, plus lifeguards, showers and plenty of parking. The look leans romantic, and it takes private events.

It runs June to September, 9am to 6pm. Rates aren't published, so book direct. Service comes to your spot, which suits a slower, couples-first day. €€€

Riva del Sole Beach Club

Two pools and lounger rows on a natural cove at Riva del Sole, Giovinazzo

Further north still, past Bari at Giovinazzo, Riva del Sole Beach Club is the family pick. It's attached to a hotel on a natural cove, with about 200 lounger stations.

Two pools split the crowd, one for children on the beach and one for adults, alongside a beach bar, pool bar and the Levante restaurant. Sports fields cover beach soccer, volleyball and tennis.

Midweek and weekend lounger price lists are on the site, and it sits a notch cheaper than the Polignano flagships. Beach club hours are 9:30am to 7pm. Good if you're basing yourself north of Bari. €€

Frequently asked questions about Polignano a Mare beach clubs

How much do beach clubs in Polignano a Mare cost?

Expect around €12 a day for two loungers at simple lidos like Lido Cala Paura, rising to roughly €20 or more per person at pool clubs like Coco Beach Club. Umbrella-and-lounger sets at the cove clubs sit in between. Weekends in July and August cost the most.

Do you need to book beach clubs in Polignano a Mare in advance?

For July and August weekends, yes. This coast fills with day-trippers driving down from Bari, so the pool clubs and Cala San Giovanni can sell out their loungers. Many take bookings online through Spiagge.it or their own sites. Midweek you can usually just turn up.

What is the best beach club near Polignano a Mare?

Coco Beach Club is the flagship, with a pool, two restaurants and a full sports lineup at Cozze. For a quieter, prettier setting, Cala San Giovanni's pine-backed cove was voted Italy's best lido. Families north of Bari tend to prefer Riva del Sole for its two pools.

When are beach clubs in Polignano a Mare open?

The season runs roughly May to September, peaking in July and August. Wonder Beach Club lists June to September, 9am to 6pm, and most lidos keep similar daytime hours. By October most have packed away the loungers. Outside summer the town's coves stay open as free beaches.

Can you reach the beach clubs near Polignano a Mare without a car?

Lido Cala Paura is walkable from the old town, but the rest are spread along the coast and easier with a car. Cala San Giovanni sits about 4km north, and the Cozze, Mola di Bari and Giovinazzo clubs are a proper drive. Taxis and summer buses help, though a car gives the most freedom.
