How a beach club works
You usually pay per sunbed or daybed, or agree to spend a set amount on food and drinks. Staff bring drinks and food to your bed, and you keep it for the day.
The beach in front often stays public. You can still swim and walk along it without paying anything.
How it differs from a beach bar
A beach bar sells food and drinks, and that's it. A beach club adds sunbeds, service on the sand, and often a pool, a dress code for dinner and a DJ.
Spain is the easiest place to see both side by side. Our guide to beach clubs in Spain covers over 300 clubs, from €10 sunbeds to Balinese daybeds.
